North Bay & District Humane Society

The North Bay and District Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (S.P.C.A) was incorporated on August 6, 1954 under the Ontario Business Corporation Act. The Society is a non-profit organization and is exempt from income taxes under section 149(1)(1). The current shelter building on Main Street West was mostly funded through the estate of the founding President Mrs. Marjorie Wright. The shelter building is named "The Marjorie Wright Shelter for Animals" in her memory. The Society is an affiliate, rather than a branch of the Ontario S.P.C.A., and pays an annual membership fee for this affiliation. The Society is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors.
