Our mission is to ultimately ensure that every creature has access to the basic necessities of life-food, water, shelter, and medical attention. This goal is achieved through working with like-minded individuals in the community. By providing information, education, and advice, we encourage and perpetuate animals living quality lives in harmony among us rather than being viewed as a nuisance. Furthermore, we provide supplies and other resources (vet care, transportation) to individuals who care for needy (abused, neglected, starving, injured, sick) animals. We have many sites throughout the state where homeless animals can find shelter and food.

The Bridgeport Cat Project is not a shelter, but a Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR) program which is used by rescue groups worldwide. Since the Projects inception in 1994, we have neutered approximately 4000 male and female cats, eliminating the needless suffering of hundreds of thousands of their potential offspring. The year 2000 found us especially busy, having altered 500+ cats. The Cat Project currently runs with the help of 10 volunteers, who trap and transport feral cats to veterinarians and back to their original colony, oversee the 24 hour hotline in weekly shifts, foster recuperating cats until they can be returned to the wild, coordinate fund-raising events and foster cats that can be adopted to a prospective owner. We have received modest grants from the City of Bridgeport's Health Department so that we can help control the spread of diseases like rabies, but we rely heavily on donations from private citizens.

Vernon Animal Control is the animal shelter for the Town of Vernon, CT. We are a multi-purpose facility providing temporary, safe shelter, primarily to homeless or abandoned canines and cats of all ages. Vernon Animal Control strives to place their animals in committed, loving and pet-responsible homes. Pet stays at the shelter are limited. Did you know that 5,000,000+ healthy dogs are euthanized in the U.S. each year due to lack of homes? Please rescue pets already in shelters so we can reduce this inexcusable number. Shelter pets are pets that truly appreciate your rescuing them!
