Animal Sanctuary Inc. is a non-profit rescue that began when one of our foster homes lived in Greene County. Due to the overwelming amount of animals that were dumped on their property, our rescue was formed. Most of our foster homes our now in Bloomington, yet we still take in our animals from the Greene County Humane Society due to the fact that they have a 65% euthanasia rate. If you see an animal on their website you are interested in, please contact us and we will make sure to take it in to one of our homes so that it will not be euthanised.

We are an organization that works with stray & feral cats in Greene County, IN. We have created the "Stray Cat Paradise" which is a safe haven for stray cats and feral cats that for some reason can no longer be with their colony. The cats who live here are offered a different life than they had on the street because they are warm in winter and cool in summer. They have a home like setting with resin furniture, soft beds, plenty of toys , food ,water, and lots of LOVE & ATTENTION. Stray Cat Paradise was started in August of 2002. We also rescue and adopt out many cats and kittens to loving, responsible and permanent homes

I founded, The Animal Labor of Love Foundation in 1998, my business, and I am dedicated to saving loving animals, and preparing them for a journey to a new, safe, and loving world. Every year in Lawrence, Orange, and Monroe County, severy hundreds of loving animals are taken to the animal shelters, or dumped on county roads, simply because they drastically outnumber the responsible pet owners available to them. They are alone, they are voiceless, and most of them are euthanized, or worst. These animals were not asked to be born into a society such as this. As their lives silently end, several hundred more pets are being born, and the cycle continues because of the local puppy mills that mass produce for quanity and not quality, or the back yard breeder that wants to make easy money at the expense of a defenseless animal. It continues because there is no mandatory spay/neuter law that is enforced by our local city/county governments. The abuse and neglect continues because our local city/county governments do not put a value on a childs life, little lone the life of an animal. The animals I take in come to me in all shapes, colors, sizes, and ages. I do not discriminate against any breed. There have been times that I have had to turn them away because of not having a place to put them. Some are victims of abuse/neglect, abandoned: others from loving homes of which the owner has passed away or been placed in a nursing home. Some are purebred, and obedienced trained. The animals I am able to rescue never have to worry about how many days they can stay. I do not run a shelter, I do not euthanize any animal unless their total medical situation confirms that it would be the kindest thing that I could do for that particular animal. Each animal that I take in receives a full medical checkup by Dr. Karen Rusch of Spring Mill Veterinary Service in Mitchell, Indiana. They are heartworm tested, vaccinated against distemper, parvo, rabies, and bordatella. They are spay/neutered, and fully groomed. I never have to get "rid" of any of them; they are here until I can find that special family that truly deserves to have them. I require an application, with references, be completed by everyone interested in adopting one of my kids. The funding to run this rescue comes from my pet grooming/boarding business "The Dog Club", and donations from my clients. I especially, would not be able to do what I do if it wasn't for Dr. Rusch, and her staff. She has helped me tremendously with my effort in caring for these wonderful animals. At the present, I do not have any volunteers. I do charge an adoption fee, ranging from $50 - $200, but it in no way covers the expense, and time it takes in caring for these animals twenty-four seven, indefinitely. So why do I do it? It's a "LABOR OF LOVE". I do require applicaitons, home checks, fenced in yard, Veterinarian references for atleast 3 years. We do reserve the right to refuse any application. I will adopt outside of my area, but I refuse to ship any animal to the new owner. If you would like to donate money, time, materials, please do not hesitate to do so. You can arrange a visit by calling me at 812-849-4889. I am usually available during normal business hours, but try to accomodate other schedules.

The BCHS was incorporated in 1966. The current shelter was built in 1987. An extensive renovation was completed in 2000. We are the only humane organization servicing the Brown County area. The mission of the Brown County Humane Society is to be a community resource dedicated to promoting the welfare of all animals in our county. We provide temporary shelter to pets in need and promote adoption of homeless pets into loving, permanent homes. We advocate respect for animals through public education concerning responsible pet ownership. We support and promote spaying and neutering to ultimately eliminate pet overpopulation in our community.
