Maddie's Pet Rescue Project of Alachua County is a community collaboration funded to end the killing of adoptable shelter dogs and cats in the city of Gainesville and the surrounding Alachua County by 2007.
The collaboration’s lead agency is the no-kill Alachua County Humane Society. Other partners include Alachua County Animal Services, Gainesville Pet Rescue, Haile's Angels Pet Rescue, Helping Hands Pet Rescue and Puppy Hill Farm.
Since 2000, Gainesville's rescue and animal control facilities impounded 11,461 dogs and cats; 8,062 were killed. Of those, approximately 3,664 were healthy and adoptable.
In the first year of Maddie's Pet Rescue Project, the partners significantly increased the number of adoptions while dramatically decreasing the number of dogs and cats euthanized at Alachua County Animal Services. Our goal for the first quarter was to limit the animals euthanized to 705. Through the hard work and dedication of our partners and volunteers and the caring nature of the community, we exceeded our goal and only 334 animals were euthanized.
Our goal this year is to find permanent, loving homes for approximately 300 animals every month and to drastically decrease the number of healthy and adoptable animals euthanized.
Help us reach our goal this year.

From finches to macaws, we are friends with a common interest, birds. Come learn something new!
The Madison Area Cagebird Association of Wisconsin was organized in 1983 by a small group of dedicated cagebird owners and breeders. They envisioned rapidly growing interest in cagebirds of all types and the need to further educate breeders, pet owners and the public on appropriate care, nutrition, health, housing, breeding and training.
MACAW is dedicated in educating those interested or active in aviculture; improving life for cagebirds; to help preserve threatened or endangered birds in their native habitat through donations to their cause and promotion of captive breeding programs; and advancing the health care of cagebirds through support of avian research.

The Madison County Humane Society, Inc., was formed August 1985. Since that time it has served companion animals and their owners in the area. The Madison County Humane Society is an independent, non-profit agency. We are not a division of any County or City and are not funded by any governmental entity or national animal welfare organization. We are a small, grassroots 501c3 corporation and are governed by a volunteer board of directors. Until July 1, 2002, the Humane Society operated the Madison County Shelter until the financial drain imposed by those activities became too restrictive on our other programs and the county was unwilling to adequately fund the shelter.
