Generally our dog adoption fee is $150, Puppies under 3 months $130 and cats or kittens are $130. These fees do include all vetting that can be done to the animal based on size and or age. Canines include SPAY/NEUTER, MICROCHIP, HEARTWORM TESTING AND STARTED ON PREVENTATIVE, BORDETELLA, ALL SHOTS INCLUDING RABIES, FECALS, DENTALS IF NEEDED, EAR CHECK AND FRONTLINE FOR FLEAS. FELINE INCLUDE SPAY/NEUTER, MICROCHIP, AND ALL SHOTS. We do occassionally ask for a higher adoption fee because vetting was more expensive for that animal or because it is a "most wanted" breed which allows us to collect a little extra donation to help those left behind at the shelter. We also have several dogs with sponsors which makes their adoption fee lower in an effort to get them placement.

Founded in 1991 by Joan B. Benson and incorporated in 1999, we continue to reach out and to grow. HPS is a fully incorporated 501(c)3, approved by the Internal Revenue Service as a nonprofit organization. The Horse Protection Society maintains the only equine sanctuary in North Carolina that provides permanent retirement care for abused and neglected equine. The sanctuary is available for people who can no long afford to care for their equine. Rocking Horse Ranch has housed as many as 40 horses. The need is so great that plans will have to be made to find a larger facility and funds raised for the purchase. HPS has trained investigators to perform on-going abuse and neglect investigations with the goal of educating the owner in the proper care of their horses. We only prosecute abuse cases when absolutely necessary. When the owners are not interested in the humane care of their horse, we offer to take the horse and rehabilitate them.
