Jefferson County Animal ControlJefferson County Animal Shelter is a kill shelter located in the tip of the Eastern Panhandle of WV, near Harper's Ferry and Charles Town. The shelter had a very high kill rate until June of 2006, when they started working with a volunteer to move as many adoptable dogs as possible into rescue. From June 2006 through December 2006, more than 100 dogs were adopted or taken into rescue. Mason County Animal ShelterWe are a high intake county shelter and need rescue help! We are NOT a no-kill shelter. Our county commission limits us to 50 dogs and 36 cats max! Without LOTS of rescue help and adoptions, it will be IMPOSSIBLE for us to maintain the population at this level without euthanizing. Residents, if you need to surrender an animal, we STRONGLY SUGGEST that you reach out to rescues and no-kill shelters via Petfinder for assistance in rehoming your pet. Rescues typically keep animals in foster homes rather than a shelter environment.
