Greyhound Rescue, Inc. was founded in 1989 by John and Denise Davis. Our goal is to find high-quality, loving homes for ex-racing Greyhounds and to educate people about the excellent, loving pets these noble creatures make.
John and Denise founded the rescue program after they adopted Stacey, a white, brindle-patched, ticked female who raced into their hearts. Their interest in the rescue effort developed into the formation of their own rescue organization. Since its inception, Greyhound Rescue, Inc. has placed over 2,000 Greyhounds in homes throughout Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington D.C.

We adopt out to the nearby West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania regions. If you live outside this area, please contact Amber for more information.
Shelter volunteers and staff evaluate each animal through regular interaction at the shelter or in foster care. This interaction gives us a better understanding of the animal’s reaction to new situations and people thus allowing us to tell the potential adopter as much as possible about the animal. We can also advise the adopter if a specific animal will be suitable for the adopter’s family

The Hancock County Animal Shelter is a county facility managed by the Hancock County Animal Shelter Foundation, a non-profit 501c3 organization. Founded in 1991, the Foundation worked to raise money for the construction of a new county shelter to replace the outdated facility then being used.
Today, the shelter is run in a humane manner. Incoming animals are assessed, vaccinated, and wormed. All animals are spayed or neutered before leaving the shelter.

We are a small, nonprofit 501(c)3 animal sanctuary and rescue group made up of very dedicated volunteers and foster families in the north central WV area. We formed in 2001, and have been working with the feral cat popluation and special needs animals in our area. Some of our sanctuary animals are blind, like Chance, the dalmation that was dumped at a local pound three years ago, and Bart, Drew, and Mitchell, our cats that have tested positive for the FIV virus. These wonderful cats are doing well here with us, and are very happy to be here rather than in the pound, where their illness would have been an automatic death senctence. We rescue as many animals as we have the funds and space to care for. Hillhaven is a no-kill sanctuary, and our animals will have a safe haven with us for their lifetime. As our adoptable animals go to their forever homes, we have the space available to rescue another one from death row.
We are a private sanctuary, and do not operate as a traditional shelter. Due to the many animals we have had dumped on our doorstep, sanctuary visits are now done by invatition, and only AFTER your application has been completed and approved. Please allow 24-48 hours for your calls to be returned.

The Humane Society of Hampshire County is a non-profit organization whose mission is to relieve and prevent animal suffering and abuse by
1. Providing a humane, temporary shelter for stray and unwanted companion animals.
2. Carrying forward a continuous program of fundamental, widespread humane education promoting responsible pet ownership.
3. Reducing the overbreeding of dogs and cats through public education and sterilization programs.
4. Working to create a community with humane and caring attitudes towards both domestic animals and wildlife.
The Humane Society of Hampshire County is the only shelter in the community which accepts both stray and unwanted cats and dogs. We receive no government funding and rely entirely on memberships, donations, fund raising, and grant monies. Donations may be made as memorials (pet or human), or can be earmarked for spay/neuter projects, general operations, or staff training.
We have a paid staff of one exceptional shelter manager, one assistant, and a small corps of very dedicated volunteers. Included in this group of people are two certified euthanasia technicians, three people who have received training in wildlife rehabilitation, several persons who have received training at Humane Society of the United States shelter conferences, and a veterinarian who volunteers for health evaluations and performs neutering surgeries at a reduced cost.
Public hours are by appointment. This is to allow our small staff and volunteers to work efficiently which better serves both our pets and prospective adopters. Please leave a message on our answering machine and it will be returned promptly.
