In 1982, the Animal Protection Society (APS) became incorporated with just a small group of caring individuals that recognized the need to provide shelter to stray and abandoned cats and dogs. The need is just as great today. As our island population increases, so does the pet population. The APS-FH is a private, non-profit organization that depends on donations to continue our animal care work. We are growing and improving the facility and invite you to visit our bright and cheery shelter.

Animal Rescue Families is a non-profit corporation committed to the following community services:
We are a non-kill animal rescue organization. Our family foster home system provides safe haven for abandoned, abused, or unwanted domestic animals. All animals in our care are spayed or neutered and receive all life saving or necessary medical attention. When these foster animals are emotionally and physically healed, we search for the correct human companion for each, ensuring a loving, permanent home.

We are a network of animal shetlers dedicated to helping and finding good homes for our animals and non-adoptable, special needs, and various other varieties of care. The most important thing about our organization is that it allows smaller shelters to join together and have the same abilities that large organizations have, such as insurance and tax coverage/exemptions 501(c)3, and a strong support system. We are always looking for other organizations to join us in our mission of educating through example and to inspire the community to create and maintain a healthy quality of life for domestic animals in their care. If you would like to help or join us please use the contact information below.

Animal Talk opened its pet shop doors in 1990 and rescue work for companion animals began. The rescue obtained its 501C3 March 1, 2000. While the rescue focus has been primarily with cats and kittens, rescue of any abused, abandoned or neglected companion animals is undertaken provided there is space available. In past years dogs, puppies, and even iguanas have been rescued, treated and cared for until suitable new caretakers have been found. After eleven years of work, Animal Talk Rescue was approved as a 501C3 Non Profit. About the "Rescue"! This past year the number of cats or kittens taken in has sharply increased. In 1999 229 animals were taken in by the rescue, this figure doubled in 2000. In 2004 we placed 630 adoptions.
