Washington Akita Group, Inc. (WAG) is a small group of concerned Akita people dedicated to the rescue and placement of orphaned Akitas in Eastern and Central Washington State (other areas in the Pacific Northwest as foster or kennel space allows). Our primary mission is to find good homes for abandoned Akitas, most coming from local animal shelters after being found as strays or given up to shelters by their owners. We DO NOT take dogs directly from an owner except under extraordinary conditions. We help transition the dogs into their new homes by providing proper nutrition, veterinary care, grooming, socialization and love before placement. We offer support for Akita owners and education for our communities about the Akita as a breed and the need for responsible dog ownership.

Washington German Shepherd Rescue's mission is to find loving homes for surrendered, abandoned or neglected dogs and puppies. As an all volunteer group, WGSR hopes to ease the problem of the population overflow occurring in many of our shelters today, and to educate the individual on the importance of sterilizing the pet and providing superior care.

As the oldest non-profit animal welfare organization in Whatcom County, WHS is committed to caring for any animal in need. As an open-admission shelter, the dedicated staff and volunteers at the Whatcom Humane Society cared for approximately 2,600 homeless, unwanted and abused animals in 2003.

In addition to providing these services for the City of Bellingham, WHS also has animal control contracts with the Cities of Blaine, Sumas, Everson/Nooksack and a working agreement with the Nooksack Indian Reservation.

Whatcom Voice of the Animals (WVOA) has a simple mission for its existence, to save as many lives as possible from needless death. We are a no-kill organization that has no central shelter. Instead, our compassionate volunteers open their homes as foster care facilities. Animals staying in foster care are cared for and nurtured until adoptions are arranged.
