We take into foster care and help find homes for Border Collies and Border Collie mixes. The working dog temperament is a unique challenge in the pet dog world. We take in dogs whose owners have been overwhelmed by the challenges of an intelligent, high-energy dog. We give the dogs training, self-control, and a sense of purpose, to prepare them for homes with people.

We are a network of animal shetlers dedicated to helping and finding good homes for our animals and non-adoptable, special needs, and various other varieties of care. The most important thing about our organization is that it allows smaller shelters to join together and have the same abilities that large organizations have, such as insurance and tax coverage/exemptions 501(c)3, and a strong support system. We are always looking for other organizations to join us in our mission of educating through example and to inspire the community to create and maintain a healthy quality of life for domestic animals in their care. If you would like to help or join us please use the contact information below.

Washington Akita Group, Inc. (WAG) is a small group of concerned Akita people dedicated to the rescue and placement of orphaned Akitas in Eastern and Central Washington State (other areas in the Pacific Northwest as foster or kennel space allows). Our primary mission is to find good homes for abandoned Akitas, most coming from local animal shelters after being found as strays or given up to shelters by their owners. We DO NOT take dogs directly from an owner except under extraordinary conditions. We help transition the dogs into their new homes by providing proper nutrition, veterinary care, grooming, socialization and love before placement. We offer support for Akita owners and education for our communities about the Akita as a breed and the need for responsible dog ownership.

LDFR is committed to caring for all homeless ferrets until a new permanent loving home is found. We are a 100% no-kill shelter and no ferrets are ever euthanized due to lack of room, age, behavior or illness.
Our permanent foster program allows an unusually geriatric or special needs ferret to go to a foster home for extra TLC while still being financially supported by LDFR.
