Shelter | Animal Control |
All stray animals are held for a minimum of six days without a collar or ten days if wearing a collar, before being placed for adoption. All animals released by owners are available for adoption upon arrival and during normal adoption hours. Before consideration for adoption, all animals are evaluated by staff for obvious signs of health and/or behavior problems; however, the shelter cannot guarantee the health or temperament of any animal. Within one week after adoption, all dogs and cats must be taken to one of the participating veterinarians for a free health examination. Any additional testing, lab-work, vaccinations, medications, etc., are the financial responsibility of the adopter. There is a $20 adoption fee for dogs and cats. Spay/neuter fees are as follows: F-cats $55; M-cats $30; M/F dogs $65.

Please note that we generally do not take owner surrenders or stray dogs. We focus primarily on rescuing from kill shelters and pounds. If you must surrender a dog, please do your best to locate a no-kill facility

We are a non-profit, all-volunteer rescue that operates out of the Fair Lakes PETsMART in Fairfax, Va. Since being founded we have found loving homes for approximately 3,000 cats in the National Capital area.
Fancy Cats works to end needless euthanasia by providing a safety net for cats that have been abandoned. We rescue friendly strays, cats on “death row” at local shelters, and assist other rescue groups and personnel in emergency situations. We take owner release cats as space permits with all medical work done (including sterilization, FeLV/FIV test, and rabies and distemper shots that are current). We also require a tax dedeuctible donation of our choosing depending on the cats age and general health. We take strays as space permits. We do not accept feral (wild) cats.

The Fauquier SPCA was founded in 1957 to offer protection and assistance to the animals of Fauquier County and surrounding areas. The SPCA lived up to its name almost immediately. Barely two weeks after it was organized, the SPCA went to the rescue of some starving livestock, whose owner was subsequently convicted of cruelty to animals. In the more than 45 years following its inception, the Fauquier SPCA has continued its mission of providing local animals with the most complete services possible.

The Ferret Haven By The Sea is a non-profit no-kill animal shelter which is dedicated to helping ferrets, and educating the public in the proper care and treatment of ferrets. We take in lost, unclaimed, or owner-released ferrets and place them in homes. If the ferret is sick, veterinary care is provided before adoption. All ferrets are current on their distemper shots. If a ferrets' health or age does not allow for adoption, we care for that ferret until its natural death. We NEVER put a ferret to sleep because we could not find him/her a home.
