East Tennessee Border Collie Rescue

Over the past few years, the Border Collie has become one of the most overbred and misunderstood breeds in this country. Its prominence in movies, TV shows and the press, and its unfortunate rating as "the most intelligent breed in the world" has made it a target for puppy mills, back-yard breeders, and thoughtless but well-meaning individuals who insist that they need to reproduce the family genius without giving a thought to the future well-being of the puppies. In the U.K., the Border Collie is the second most common breed to be turned into Rescue, even to the point where the British press has printed several articles about the situation recently. I fear that the same thing will happen here unless energetic steps are taken to educate the public about this most work-oriented breed.

Engelschwein Farm AKA Shepherd's Green Sanctuary

We were known as Engelschwein Farm for many years, changing our name officially in 2005 to Shepherd's Green Sanctuary as we merged our sanctuary with Mini-Pigs from Culpeper, Virginia. We provide daily care and lifetime sanctuary to over 400 pigs. We provide a special habitat for aged, crippled, arthritic or otherwise handicapped pigs. We offer educational materials to shelters, vets and animal control offices. We offer outreach help to provide spay/neuter and fences and housing for pet pigs at risk of becoming a statistic at some county incinerator. Pigs have been erroneously marketed as housepets and only 1 in 100 will live to see its second birthday because of that marketing. Our intervention assistance puts pigs outside in suitable environments where behavioral problems cease. We support our sister sanctuaries by maintaining the national data base of pig rescues and sanctuaries.
