The CCAAF is a non-profit, no-kill, all volunteer network for abandoned, neglected and unwanted pets. The need for services for these animals is extremely pronounced since Cheatham Co. currently has no municipal animal control services and no shelter in which to house animals. In May of 2003, our volunteer organization's working name was changed to Cheatham Animal Rescue Effort (C.A.R.E.) to better represent our volunteer rescuers, foster parents and adoption counselors.

In December of 1999, a group of concerned residents formed the Claiborne County Animal Control Board, authorized by the County Commission. The main object of the Board was to build a shelter to house the many unwanted and homeless animals of the County. The Board was also empowered to sponsor animal spay-and-neuter clinics, and to engage in educational and fundraising activities.
