Promises for Pets is a non-profit organization dedicated to addressing the issues regarding homeless, unwanted, and neglected animals in Lawrence County, Pennsylvania and surrounding areas. Our mission is to provide community service and education, and to build a no-kill shelter and adoption site in Lawrence County. We will also offer animal services such as kenneling, grooming, and a Dog Park. These components will also allow us to offer vocational rehabilitation for adults with developmental disabilities as well as therapeutic programming for children with behavioral challenges. In an effort to provide community service, we currently offer Low-Cost spay and neuter programs for owned animals, and Spay-A-Stray services (trap, neuter, vaccinate, and release) for feral or stray cats. We also offer Pet Therapy services which include visiting nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and schools. We are available to talk to all groups, schools, and civic organizations regarding the issues of responsible pet ownership (our education animals will accompany us). Promises for Pets also currently offers Foster Home Placement for otherwise homeless animals. All animals in foster care are fully vaccinated and spayed/neutered before adoption.

We are a basset hound rescue, volunteered group saving and caring for local basset hounds that are no longer wanted, neglected, abused, stray, etc. We nurture these darling basset homes by getting them immediate vet care, altered, and treatments that are necessary to ensure their health and happiness. We give them security and lots of loving care in our volunteer foster homes, who are the heart of this rescue. From there we advertise and screen applicants, as well as provide educational outreach on the basset hound breed and rescue needs.

In the early fifties, there was no Strayhaven Animal Shelter. There was only a group of caring people, who rescued strays, keeping them in their homes until these pitiful dogs and cats were found loving homes. In 1960, this dedicated group decided it was impractical and impossible to keep all the animals in their homes, and Strayhaven Animal Shelter was built and Incorporated.
A retired gentleman by the name of Perry Dehart, donated the land and his time to build the shelter. With help from concerned citizens and some government loans, the shelter was completed. From the beginning, the shelter was, and still is, privately run. It is the only for stray dogs and cats, to shelter, inoculate, de-worm, and find good homes. Strayhaven is unique in that it keeps its strays longer than most shelters.

Grove City Area Pet Rescue is a non-profit organization helping stray/unwanted cats and dogs find new loving homes. We hope to start a spay/neuter program in the future in hopes of reducing the litter problem in our area. Our goal is to help as many animals as we can in Grove City and surrounding communities. There is a severe overpopulation of pets in this area and many are abandoned or surrendered by their owners. A large number of these innocent animals end up in our local high kill shelter where they are euthanized in the gas chamber.
