The first viable foster program in Asheville, we are wholly devoted to the placement of lost, stray, neglected and abandoned animals. The Foster Animal Network started out helping many different animals, but is now cat specific due to a reduction in our volunteer force. The Foster Animal Network has placed approximately 3000 animals over the past ten years, and is now faced with having to shut our doors
We need foster homes, people to answer our voice mailbox from the comfort of their own home, and someone(s) to be an incharge person, preferably with some shelter or veterinary experience.

Our mission is to protect and preserve the Shackleford horses.
This organization was founded with support from the general public as a result of concern for the future existence of these horses, and the determination to preserve a culturally important and historically significant asset, in genetically viable numbers.

Franklin County’s animal control facility (located at the county landfill between Louisburg and Youngsville) was originally designed as a rabies control facility rather than a shelter. Consequently, it does not have the resources to provide long-term care for dogs and cats. Stray dogs and cats are kept at the facility for a minimum of three days prior to euthanasia, while owner-surrendered animals may be (but are not always) euthanized immediately. Therefore, these animals do not have much time once they are at the facility. Further, the aging facility employs a gas chamber to euthanize animals. While the use of gas chambers is legal in North Carolina, it is not the method of euthanasia recommended by most humane organizations and veterinarians for destruction of tame/friendly dogs and cats

FCHS is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization comprised entirely of volunteers from Franklin County and throughout the state and country. It was formed in 2002 to help solve the problem of unwanted dogs and cats in this region. Its long-term goal is to build an animal shelter where area pets can find safe refuge until they can be adopted to permanent homes. Its immediate goals are to develop a strong foster program to remove adoptable animals from the Franklin County Animal Control facility and to decrease the number of unwanted dogs and cats in Franklin/North Wake counties through spay/neuter public education programs.
