Cashiers-Highlands Humane SocietyThe Cashiers-Highlands Humane Society is located in the small town of Cashiers, North Carolina, in the Blue Ridge Mountains. It was founded in the fall of 1987 by a group of concerned citizens to care for the injured, lost and abandoned dogs and cats in the community. In 1992, through the generosity of a local resident, CHHS was able to open the Zoe Marvil Society Center's shelter on a 10-acre site just 2.3 miles from the center of Cashiers. The shelter features indoor dog kennels and cages for cats. It also has a cat community room plus 7 large outdoor exercise runs for dogs. The CHHS is a private, non-profit organization. CAsTAWAYSCAsTAWAYS is comprised of individuals who devote their time and energy towards facilitating homes for unwanted pets. The mission of this organization is to match animals in need of a second chance at life with caring individuals willing to create a loving environment and forever home for pets worth saving. Due to situations beyond their control, i.e. death and illness in families, many excellent pets are euthanized or placed in kill shelters. These are the animals that CAsTAWAYS concentrates on. It is a totally enclosed facility, meaning no animal sheltered is being exposed to the weather. Charlotte Cocker Rescue of NCCharlotte Cocker Rescue was started in 2001 by Larry and Donna Carpenter. Our rescue mission is helping homeless cocker spaniels from North Carolina shelters, sometimes strays and owner give ups. Our focus is mostly shelter animals as they only have limited time to either get adopted, reclaimed by owners or rescued by rescue groups such as ours. We began our dream in 2001 after taking in our Charlie from WV and adopting our Sam from MD. We were shocked how many homeless cocker spaniels there were in shelters. We are searching for volunteers, foster homes, who will be dedicated to our rescue mission. Our vet is Cabarrus Animal Hospital for which we have been a loyal client since 1991 and they have the best vets on duty there.
