We are a group of individuals who work with other groups and shelters to save a few innocent pets from euthanization. Most shelters are overflowing with too many animals. This means many animals will be euthanized. For this reason, we are in continuous rotation of foster animals within our own homes. Volunteers foster many cats, dogs and horses. Placement of these animals makes room for another to be saved. Due to lack of space and finances we can only save what our homes will hold. Some fosters save one pet at a time, others can do three or even more. These pets are given temporary homes until we can find them a forever home.

We are just a city shelter, run by the Animal Control Officer. We are a small shelter and therefore we don't have the space to keep more than a few animals at one time. We are finally getting some help from a volunteer to get our animals on Petfinder.com. We hope this will help us to adopt out more of the animals. We have no choice but to put them down if they are not adopted out soon. So if you or someone you know may be interested in adopting a pet, please check out our animals.

We rescue puppies and adults from shelters and from the streets. When animals are placed in their new home they will be examined by a licensed veterinarian approved by that shelter. When dogs are placed they will be heartworm negative, treated for common internal parasites (worms), neutered or spayed, bathed and/or flea-dipped if necessary, vaccinated: DHLPP; (Bordetella if necessary, from a shelter) Rabies vaccine/tag if over 6 months of age, ready to start on heartworm preventative and flea prevention. Every attempt will be made to determine information about the animal’s history, but often for strays it simply is not available.

Many of our hounds are seniors who have been with us for a long time, or hounds with problems such as blindness, arthritis, or other issues that have made them practically unadoptable. Some wonderful people have "virtually" adopted them and help us with their care. We'd like to recognize those wonderful "Angels" at this time.

KCDR is a not-for-profit organization of volunteers who rescue Dobermans. Our dogs come from shelters, owners who no longer can or will provide for them and, all too often, strays that are never searched for. We evaluate the dogs' health and temperament and place the dogs with new adoptive families.
