Our Mission
The Riverlands SPCA is dedicated to eliminating animal suffering, specifically cats and dogs. We are dedicated to eliminating pet overpopulation. We strongly urge every pet owner to spay and/or neuter their pet(s). We support legislation intent on eliminating cruelty to animals. Also, we supports laws that prohibit animal fighting, especially dog fighting. We work to reduce the number of cats living in feral cat colonies by capture, spay, and release. We investigate animal cruelty allegations and strongly support the prosecution of offenders. We rescue animals that are abandoned, injured, abused, or just homeless. Our members toil daily to find a suitable companion for all of our resident animals. At present, we do not own or operate a facility. Our resident animals live in foster homes, veterinarian's offices, or professional kennels. Our long-term goal is to build and operate an ultra-modern animal welfare center that offers free or low cost sterilization and/or immunization for pet owners with low income

The adoption fees at the St. John Parish Animal Shelter are $75.00. The fees pay for Spay/Neuter, rabies and basic vaccinations, Heartworm check and micro-chipping. The vaccinations and spay/neuter are required by the state prior to the release of any animal from a shelter. The micro-chipping will make sure the owner is in compliance with state law for identification required on an animal. Tags and tattoos also bring the animal in compliance, but tags can be lost, removed or stolen and tattoos have higher health risks. Note that micro-chipping does not remove the requirement that rabies tags be attached to a collar on the animal.
The Shelter is now offering micro-chipping to the public for a charge of $15, which includes registration. The micro-chipping will be available at the shelter between the hours of 1 P.M. and 3 P.M. Tuesday through Saturday, with the exception of holidays.
STATE LAW RS 3:2472 STERILIZATION REQUIRED A Provision providing for the sterilization of all dogs and cats released for adoption or purchased from any public or private animal shelter or animal control agency operated by a humane society, parish city or other political division by providing sterilization by a licensed veterinarian before relinquishing custody of the animal.

The St. Charles Humane Society was formed with a Vision to establish humane treatment of animals and create an adoption and sterilization program at the St. Charles Animal Control Center in Luling.
The shelter had been built in the early 1980s for the sole purpose of picking up abandoned, stray and unwanted pets. The outcome for 98% of these animals was euthanasia. St. Charles Humane Society began recruiting residents, businesses and garnered St. Charles Parish Council support to turn the Vision into reality.
In October 1993, the Board of Directors was established with a small base of dedicated volunteers. A contract between the Parish and the Society took over a year to develop. Upon approval by the 1993 Council, the volunteers moved into an office at the shelter. The dedication of all members has led to one of the most professional and successful humane groups in Louisiana. Many unforeseen goals have been obtained since the inception of the society. A cruelty investigator was initiated within the Sheriffs Department at the request of the Society and abuse calls were finally taken seriously.
In 1996 and 2003, the St. Charles Humane Society helped implement animal ordinances to protect animals, promote responsibility for pet ownership and protect residents from dangerous animals. In 2000, a supervisor of the shelter was granted through Parish Council approval. Since that time, numerous improvements have been made to the shelter. A separate room for cats and kittens; platforms for the dogs to get off the cold concrete and stay dry and warm.
In May 2003, a surgery and exam room was created with the help of a grant from PETsMART Charities. A giant step for spaying and neutering animals before they leave the shelter and; finally, a way of taking care of all the animals at the shelter. Healthy animals slated for euthanasia are sterilized and have a second chance. Diseased animals are euthanized immediately and do not languish at the shelter. The society became a PETsMART Partner in 1999 and in 2003 the St. Charles Humane Society became the sole group for adoptions. Ten cats are available at the store every day of the week and the Society brings in dogs on the weekends.

Who we are...
St. Tammany Animal Resource Team is a group of volunteers dedicated to helping the unwanted pet population of St. Tammany Parish. Our work focuses us on the Northshore in areas such as Mandeville, Covington, Madisonville, Folsom and Slidell. Some of our projects include animal adoption, spay/neuter programs, feral cat management, and pet emergency resources. At this time, we foster all our animal in volunteer homes. While this is a major expense, it also allows us to socialize the animals with other pets and children and assess their special needs.

Pet Adoption Services, Inc. is a non-profit all breed cat and dog rescue organization in New Orleans. Supported by over 20 volunteer members, Pet Adoption Services was founded in 1996, although some of our members have been involved in rescue for as long as 20 years. Our mission is to secure loving
permanent homes for homeless, abandoned or abused cats and dogs of all breeds. While awaiting adoption, our animals live in the homes of one of our foster parents. During this time the animals receive any necessary veterinary care, including but not limited to, vaccinations, spaying or neutering and perhaps
heartworm treatment. Our experienced foster parents continually assess each pet's personality and temperament allowing us to place adoptable cats and dogs in just the right permanent home. Pet Adoption Services participates in adoption days during which time, potential adopters get the opportunity to meet and spend time with the animals in a "real life" situation.
Pet Adoption Services holds several fundraisers throughout the calendar year so that we can continue to meet the needs of homeless animals. Generous donations by persons committed to the cause of animal rescue are also essential to our economic survival.
