Welcome to Second Hand Pets, we are a newly established rescue in the Boone County Indiana area. Since Boone County has no shelter we are here to help Second Hand Pets find new loving homes.
During our starting up period due to lack of funds, space and fosters we are only available to take small puppies or kittens.

South Bend Animal Care and Control is a division of the Department of Code Enforcement, City of South Bend, Indiana. Our adoption facility is located at 105 S. Olive St., in the old fire station across from the Olive St. post office. Adoption and breed rescue activities are supplemented by a small group of volunteers who provide foster care for SBACC pets in their own homes. SBACC is a non-profit, municipal organization. Donations to SBACC are tax deductible and go directly towards the care of South Bend's homeless animals and not back to the City.

Tippecanoe County Humane Society
The Tippecanoe County Humane Society was founded in 1939 by a group of local animal lovers in Tippecanoe County. Since its beginnings more than 60 years ago, TCHS has been dedicated to improving the lives of animals in its community.
We are not a government agency, are not affiliated with any national organization, and we are not a United Way Agency. We are an open admission shelter and we accept all animals in need, regardless of age, health or adoptability. As a local non profit we exist through the generosity of our community.

Our family has been doing informal cat rescue for nearly 30 years. Cats show up on our doorstep, we get them healthy, vaccinated and fixed, then find them permanent homes. In the past, we've always just put an ad in the paper, screened adopters and sent our kittys to their forever homes. My daughter just convinced me that we'd have a larger pool of potential adopters for our older and special needs cats if we had a presence on Petfinder. We've been doing the Petfinder listings for our local Humane Society for the past year or so and have seen how wonderfully it works. We ask that you first check Petfinder listings for cats at our local shelter, Parke-Vermillion County Humane Society, Clinton, IN, or the "kill shelter" near you since none of the cats in our home are in danger of being euthanized due to lack of space. We've only a few cats listed here since many in our current "pride" are sanctuary, lifetime residents here due to special needs. If you have room in your heart, home and budget for special needs cats, please e-mail and we'll send you info on some of our kittys with special medical needs.
