Central Illinois Sheltie RescueCentral Illinois Sheltie Rescue is a non profit, State Licensed, ALL Volunteer organization that helps homeless or abandoned Shetland Sheepdogs.........also known as "Shelties". We take in the Shelties that need us, and adopt them out to wonderful new homes. Founded in 1998 by our current director, Natalie Whalen, Central Illinois Sheltie Rescue takes in and places approximately 150-200 Shelties each year! We will take in any Sheltie that needs us. We do not have a shelter facility. All dogs are housed and cared for in our network of foster homes. This allows us to get to know the dogs personality along with any special needs it may have. All of our dogs get the best of medical care. Each dog is treated for any medical problems.....then spayed or neutered, brought current on all shots, wormed, treated for fleas and ticks, heartworm tested and treated if positive for HW, started on preventative medication, started on flea prevention medicine, and groomed. Central Illinois Small Animal Rescue and Equine Sanctuary (CISAR)We are a no-kill not for profit animal shelter in Central Illinois. Homeward Bound Pet ShelterThe mission of Homeward Bound Pet Shelter is to shelter and rehabilitate relinquished cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies until they can be permanently adopted into loving homes. Homeward Bound has operated as a no-kill, not-for profit organization since April 2002. On July 1, 2005, Homeward Bound became a division of Macon Resources, Inc. Macon Resources, Inc. is a not for profit agency that provides comprehensive services and supports which promote growth, independence, and self-worth for children and adults with disabilities and their families. This unique social partnership is benefiting both organizations as well as the Decatur community. During fiscal year 2006, we placed 258 dogs and 128 cats. That's a total of 386 animals whose lives we have touched in a very positive way! We rescued pets not only from the Decatur and Macon County area but from several humane societies and animal control facilities throughout central and southern Illinois. Our vision to establish community outreach programs is becoming a reality. Hope Animal RescuesWe are a Rescue which means we physically go and save lives. Hope pulls animals on their last day of life from animal control facilities that still use the inhumanne gas chamber to put to death homeless pets. We lobby our goverment to ban the use of such chambers for they are cruel. For anyone who does not understand how a gas chamber works we can tell you that they do not die immediately, they do not die peacefully, they die thrown together with cats, dogs, puppies all trying to escape the chamber and breath. It is much like being suffocated.
