ARFhouse Chicago (Animal Refuge Foundation) is a no-kill animal shelter located in Chicago. Founded in 2006, a group of individuals with experience in the animal rescue industry and the desire to help Chicago lower its euthanasia rate and homeless pet population formed ARFhouse Chicago. We are a 100% volunteer run organization.
ARFhouse Chicago will place dogs, cats, guinea pigs, and rabbits into permanent homes. We currently house our animals in foster homes and boarding facilities and are working to secure a facility in 2007 to expand our operations.
ARFhouse Chicago is affiliated with ARFhouse in Sherman Texas, the third largest no-kill sanctuary in the United States. ARFhouse is located in a rural area of North Texas and recognizing the potential for a beneficial partnership with a large urban shelter, has offered invaluable support to ARFhouse Chicago.
All of the animals at ARFhouse Chicago are current on vaccinations, heartworm checked, spayed or neutered, microchipped, and receive routine medical check ups. We pride ourselves on the level of care, commitment, and medical attention that our animals receive.
ARFhouse Chicago NFP is an Illinois non-for-profit organization. We are proud to announce that our 501(c)(3) status has been approved and all donations to ARFhouse Chicago are tax deductible.

Incorporated in Illinois in 1989, Cats-Are-Purrsons-Too began as a safe haven in the home of Sister Marijon Binder for cats that elderly neighbors could no longer keep because of changing life situations. As word spread, "neighbors" form all over Chicago and the Northern/Northwest suburbs began to call begging for board for their beloved companion cats during a short term hospital or nursing home stay, and/or to keep them if/when the person died. At the same time it seems that little catnip calling cards in secret felines language were being passed around in alleys and dumping grounds where cats and kittens were in desperately unsafe situations. "We" (numbering no more than two or three soft hearted, dedicated volunteers) responded to as many nowhere-else-to-turn elderly callers and endangered felines rescues as we could.

Animal Welfare League was founded in 1935 to stop the suffering of animals that seemed common place in Chicagoland. Our founding shelter, located at 6224 South Wabash Avenue in Chicago, still exists today as the only humane society on the south side of Chicago. Our Wabash shelter operates in an economically depressed area and provides valuable services to residents in the area such as shelter and care to homeless and needy animals, low cost clinic services to pet owners on a limited income and no-charge monthly pet food distribution.

We are a non profit rescue and operate on our own money so donations are very much appreciated. When you adopt from me you are saving two lives. The dog you adopt and the one you are making more room for. All of my dogs are current on shots and you will have to fill out a spay contract before adopting them. All dogs are $75.00. The money goes to help rescue more dogs from being euthanized, shots and spaying.

The DeWitt County Animal Shelter was formed in the early 70's after a new law was passed in Illinois that required counties to establish an Animal Control Program. The Shelter was built around 1972 or 1973, as required by this law, and according to state specifications. Dr. Mary Ella Mennenga, DVM, is the Animal Control Administrator, and Tamara McFeeters is the Animal Control Officer. For many years there was no adoption program at the Shelter, so the animals were euthanized when they weren't reclaimed. In January 1991 though, that all changed when the DeWitt County Board passed a new Animal Control Ordinance that allowed animals to be adopted from the Shelter. Since that time, two not-for-profit organizations have helped adopt out animals from the Shelter. The current organization is Second Chance for Pets. The organization donates food, supplies, vaccinations, and vet care when needed for the Shelter animals.

Grundy County Humane Society/DANE911
Are you interested in adopting a "rescued" Great Dane or in knowing more information about them? Here's a summary of what we do and a phone number to call... We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We are contacted by humane societies, animal control facilities, and individuals interested in placing Danes of assorted ages into new homes. We arrange to see the dogs to help check temperatment, and we take them to a veterinary facility for fecal and heartworm checks, shots, spay or neuters, and micro chipping before placing them into new homes. We do not provide dogs for breeding purposes. We interview interested families over the phone to fill out information sheets about their circumstances with housing, children, other pets, amount of yard, exercise, or walking which can be provided. This enables us to attempt to place the dog, as it becomes available, not by the order in which you enroll with us, but by the best "fit" for the dog. Expect to pay approximately $600.00 for a rescued Dane. We hold this donation a week until we see that the dog is fitting in with its new family. Then the donation is used to fund the medical expenses for the next dog. We are happy to talk about medical, feed, or other problems you may have with your adopted Dane, and we ask you to sign a contract agreeing to alert us in future if you have questions or problems with your dog. We provide information on gastric torsion and bloat in large dog breeds and discuss and require that you are prepared to keep the dog on heartworm preventative monthly as treating heartworm is expensive, time consuming, and very stressful for dogs and owners. We do not breed or sell puppies. We will be happy to try to put you in conact with reputable breeders who x-ray for genetic problems, use spay and neuter contracts on pet quality dogs, and who are "responsible" for helping readopt their own dogs that must be returned for some reason. We are looking for Great Homes for Great Danes. Do you qualify?
