Lake Shore works with the general public, animal shelters, and animal care and control agencies to accept dogs and cats for sheltering and adoption. We work with sanctuaries for the lifetime care those companion animals for whom we cannot find suitable homes.
Currently, Lake Shore is serving on the board of the Chicago Animal Shelter Alliance, CASA, comprised of many Chicago shelters working together to improve the lives of companion animals through accelerated adoption efforts.
Adoption hours are Saturdays from 12 to 3pm. Appointments outside these hours can be made with Ann Markham, shelter director, at 312 409 1162.

Red Door Animal Shelter is a no-kill shelter committed to helping animals in need. Its primary focus is on the rescue, shelter and adoption of cats, dogs and rabbits—the three most popular pets in the United States.
Red Door provides a cageless environment for its animals, giving them the closest-to-a-home experience that a shelter can provide. While our emphasis is on re-homing the animals through resourceful adoption programs, the shelter does offer permanent residence for those few animals not placed in homes.
Adoption hours: Monday through Thursday, 1-5pm; Friday, Saturday & Sunday 12-4 p.m. Please call for weeknight hours. Please arrive one hour ahead of closing time. Appointments are highly recommended. All rabbit and dog adoptions are done by appointment only. Dogs available for adoption are not located at our shelter address. The first step is to fill out an adoption application.

Founded in 1997, PAWS (Pets Are Worth Saving) Chicago is the city's largest non-profit, no-kill humane organization. Our work is focused on alleviating our city's tragic pet overpopulation problem--over 24,000 dogs and cats were euthanized in Chicago in 2004. PAWS Chicago envisions a no-kill Chicago--a city in which no pets are destroyed just because they are homeless.

More than 28,000 dogs and cats are killed in Chicago every year -- even more animals are neglected and abused.
The Chicago Canine Rescue Foundation's mission is to decrease the thousands of euthanizations and abuses in our city through dog rescue and adoption. CCRF saves displaced and homeless dogs throughout the Chicagoland area and places these dogs in loving area homes through responsible adoption. By working with our adopters and the community on adoption and the humane treatment of animals, CCRF believes that we can instill respect and appreciation for animals and contribute to making Chicago a no-kill city.

Everyday the Animal Welfare League saves animals lives and works to improve the way they are treated and regarded by society. In the Chicagoland area, we help all animals through our adoption programs, our low cost clinic services, our local cruelty investigations, and our public education programs. Locally we work to improve municipal, city and state laws and regulations regarding the treatment of animals and operate the states largest non-profit animal shelter program. We have made progress since our beginning in 1935, but much more work needs to be done.
The Animal Welfare League is an independent, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that receives no city, state or federal funding and relies on private donations to continue with its mission of helping all animals.
