Cats-Are-Purrsons-TooIncorporated in Illinois in 1989, Cats-Are-Purrsons-Too began as a safe haven in the home of Sister Marijon Binder for cats that elderly neighbors could no longer keep because of changing life situations. As word spread, "neighbors" form all over Chicago and the Northern/Northwest suburbs began to call begging for board for their beloved companion cats during a short term hospital or nursing home stay, and/or to keep them if/when the person died. At the same time it seems that little catnip calling cards in secret felines language were being passed around in alleys and dumping grounds where cats and kittens were in desperately unsafe situations. Central Illinois Small Animal Rescue and Equine Sanctuary (CISAR)We are a no-kill not for profit animal shelter in Central Illinois. Homeward Bound Pet ShelterThe mission of Homeward Bound Pet Shelter is to shelter and rehabilitate relinquished cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies until they can be permanently adopted into loving homes. Homeward Bound has operated as a no-kill, not-for profit organization since April 2002. On July 1, 2005, Homeward Bound became a division of Macon Resources, Inc. Macon Resources, Inc. is a not for profit agency that provides comprehensive services and supports which promote growth, independence, and self-worth for children and adults with disabilities and their families. This unique social partnership is benefiting both organizations as well as the Decatur community. During fiscal year 2006, we placed 258 dogs and 128 cats. That's a total of 386 animals whose lives we have touched in a very positive way! We rescued pets not only from the Decatur and Macon County area but from several humane societies and animal control facilities throughout central and southern Illinois. Our vision to establish community outreach programs is becoming a reality. We receive pleas on a daily basis from shelters, animals control officers, vet offices and the general public throughout the states we cover asking for assistance in placing beagles in need. Shih Tzu Rescue, Adoption and Education Safehouse (S.T.R.A.E.S.)We are an all volunteer, not for profit, no kill, humane organization established to provide shelter, care and an adoption program for abandoned and relinquished purebred Shih Tzu. We also accept orphaned small/toy breed dogs with injuries and medical ailments that are costly to treat and who would otherwise be scheduled to die providing the extraordinary medical care they need for a second chance at life and a loving home. All dogs are kept in a licensed shelter with a cageless, home-like environment and access to over two fenced-in acres where the dogs can run free. Our Shih Tzu are spayed/neutered prior to adoption, current on annual innoculations and monthly heartworm preventative and have an AVID Friendchip identification implant. Complete veterinarian checks are done on all incoming pets and any necessary special tests, medical and/or surgical procedures are provided. Each resident also receives regularly scheduled grooming care and parasite treatments. All dogs are temperament and personality tested so potential new owners can be matched with a dog that will best suit their expectations and lifestyle. Followup assistance is provided to help the Shih Tzu and new caregiver through the transition period. We provide breed specific and general educational materials for Shih Tzu owners, or potential owners, as well as consultation and training services.
