Founded in 1999, we are a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation supported entirely by contributions and staffed by a small number of volunteers with BIG hearts. We have a Georgia Dept. of Agriculture Shelter License. We are dedicated to rescuing homeless cats and dogs and educating the public to be responsible pet owners with emphasis on spay/neuter of all companion animals. If you live in the area, we need foster homes desperately. Because we are a "no-kill" rescue, we are unable to rescue additional animals until we find homes for the ones we already have, as we lack qualified foster homes.

The Northest Georgia Animal Shelter is an open admission, non-profit Shelter, supported financially by private donations and funds from eight city and county jurisdictions. We do not refuse any animals from Hart and Franklin Counties. We often take in sick and injured animals, feral cats, wild dogs, and viscious dogs. In these cases, it is our obligation to humanely end the suffering of these animals. We strive to get all of our animals adopted, and often work with rescue groups and other local shelters to achieve this. Our maximum capacity is 60 animals. Currently our adoption rate is 30% and we are working hard every day to increase it. Our goal of course, is an adoption rate of 100%.

We are a private rescue group set up to help people who must, for one reason or another, find new homes for thir pets. We hope that by doing this we can help keep pets from being abandoned or dropped off at shelters. Unfortunately we can not, at this time, house any new dogs or cats. But we will be happy to work with owners to find a new home or approptiate rescue group for their pet.

We accept cats and dogs on a space-available basis and operate on a no-kill philosophy: we do not kill healthy pets to make room for incoming pets. We foster these pets in one of our foster homes until they are ready for adoption. All pets must be healthy, spayed or neutered, and fully vetted to be considered for adoption. If you are interested in adopting one of the pets listed, please contact the individual foster home listed on each pet page

If you're looking for a new companion, please visit the shelter! Because there are so many animals at the shelter, and new ones come in each day, not all of the animals will be featured here.
