Friends of GypsyTo help save the lives of feral cats (the wild offspring of abandoned or stray cats) in Leon County, we are humanely trapping cats, and having them altered (neutered or spayed), vaccinated, and micro-chipped. When they are ready to return to their colony, we make sure that there is a caretaker to feed them. A caretaker is a loving individual committed to feeding and watching over a colony of feral cats. This is called a TVARM (trap, vaccinate, alter, release, and maintain) program. In some cases, we will also work to tame kittens and adult cats. We are also involved in rescuing feral cats taken to shelters to be euthanized (given a lethal injection). Friends of StraysFriends of Strays is a non-profit, volunteer organization founded in September 1978 and is dedicated to the care and adoption of homeless pets. The organization is funded by individual contributions, wills, bequests, memberships, and proceeds from our Thrift Shop. Friends of Strays provides services to the most needy section of our pet population, the homeless animals of Pinellas County. These services include the daily care, sterilization and temporary shelter until adoption of the pet can be arranged. We are also active in programs that educate the public about humane treatment and care of animals. The primary goal of Friends of Strays is to stop the reproduction of homeless cats and dogs that are abandoned and left to roam, unable to care for themselves. We do not accept "adoptable" animals, these need to be in a regular shelter, so as to find there own home and family's. Some of our animals are dying, have diseases, medical problems that require daily medicine and care,handicapped, old and feeble or with behavior problems that make them undesirable as pets. We are all volunteers, no one is paid. All the donations go directly for the care and comfort of the animals. Gainesville Rabbit RescueWe are a nonprofit organization accepting into its protection any rabbit that has been mistreated or abandoned. The organization does not deny shelter because of disability or illness. All rabbits, after being nursed into optimum health by knowledgeable volunteers and—when necessary—local vets, are spayed and neutered before being placed up for adoption. GRR volunteers screen all adopting families to insure these rabbits will be placed in a secure and loving home. Gainesville Rabbit Rescue, Inc. is not a shelter; it is solely reliant upon the efforts of its volunteers. The rabbits do not live in kennels, but in the loving homes of foster families who see to it that the rabbits are litter box trained, fed and well cared for, with expenses coming more often than not from their own pockets.
