Abandoned Pet Rescuebandoned Pet Rescue (APR) founded in 1996, is a 501 ( c ) (3) IRS tax-exempt, qualified charitable organization that rescues and shelters abandoned, abused, and neglected pets, rehabilitates them and finds them new homes. APR is one of the largest no kill animal shelters in South Florida, where volunteers perform the duties of running the shelter operations on a day to day basis. APR is devoted to the welfare of all animals. Most of the over 500 animals are Cats, Dogs, Bunnies, Birds, Parrots, Guinea Pigs, Hamsters, Mice, Rats, Iguanas, and other animals in need of help. While pet over population is declining throughout the country, the number of animals brought to South Florida shelters is increasing. APR's primary goal is to assemble a no-kill community. Florida Great Pyrenees ClubThe Florida Great Pyrenees Club (FGPC) was formed in April, 1997, as a regional club. From that original meeting, at which there were about a dozen people, we have grown to more than 200 members. We now have members from Miami to Tallahassee! Our primary goals are: (1) to maintain and further the integrity of the breed; (2) to hold regular club meetings, matches, public education, and fun activities for members; (3) to exchange ideas regarding care, behavior, training, health, and breeding for Pyrs; and (4) to be active in Great Pyrenees rescue. Feline FriendsFeline Friends is a small foster program offering cats and kittens for adoption. All cats enter the adoption program from the College of Veterinary Medicine. Unfortunately, we do not have room to accept stray cats or owner-relinquished cats from the public. Cats and kittens are FeLV and FIV negative, vaccinated with FVRCP, FeLV, and rabies (if old enough), and receive monthly flea and heartworm preventive. Gainesville Rabbit RescueWe are a nonprofit organization accepting into its protection any rabbit that has been mistreated or abandoned. The organization does not deny shelter because of disability or illness. All rabbits, after being nursed into optimum health by knowledgeable volunteers and—when necessary—local vets, are spayed and neutered before being placed up for adoption. GRR volunteers screen all adopting families to insure these rabbits will be placed in a secure and loving home. Gainesville Rabbit Rescue, Inc. is not a shelter; it is solely reliant upon the efforts of its volunteers. The rabbits do not live in kennels, but in the loving homes of foster families who see to it that the rabbits are litter box trained, fed and well cared for, with expenses coming more often than not from their own pockets.
