The Bridgeport Cat Project is not a shelter, but a Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR) program which is used by rescue groups worldwide. Since the Projects inception in 1994, we have neutered approximately 4000 male and female cats, eliminating the needless suffering of hundreds of thousands of their potential offspring. The year 2000 found us especially busy, having altered 500+ cats. The Cat Project currently runs with the help of 10 volunteers, who trap and transport feral cats to veterinarians and back to their original colony, oversee the 24 hour hotline in weekly shifts, foster recuperating cats until they can be returned to the wild, coordinate fund-raising events and foster cats that can be adopted to a prospective owner. We have received modest grants from the City of Bridgeport's Health Department so that we can help control the spread of diseases like rabies, but we rely heavily on donations from private citizens.

While suffering may never be eliminated entirely from the face of the earth, each day brings untold pain to countless creatures, human and non-human, for totally avoidable reasons. Quixotesque as it may sound, VNN's mission is to help reduce or prevent this kind of suffering through mass education and civic mobilization. If you are involved in human rights issues, activism on behalf of the environment, or animal relief operations, please contact us to discuss how we can assist in strengthening your programs or establishing a collaborative project via dedicated funding. Permission to use any materials on this site can be readily obtained by contacting our head office.
