Maqwas Paw Print Husky RescueMaqwa's Paw Print Husky Rescue was founded on behalf of Maqwa. Maqwa is a Sioux word that means bear and bears are known for being able to find hidden roots for medicinal use. Maqwa was wonderful at this. Maqwa was a full blooded Siberian Husky that came to me as a rescue in need of a home. He was extremely intelligent and a great team motivator as he ran in the lead of a team of sled dogs. When the team was tired and wanted to stop HE was the one who could motivate them to keep going a little further. In June 2004 Maqwa suddenly and unexplainably walked across the rainbow bridge. We cried for 3 days and did nothing else. But because of his leadership ability we decided that a shelter or rescued dog was NOT one that we would ever overlook again when we were looking for a team member or as a pet and thus we began taking in Huskies from the shelters to save them from walking the rainbow bridge and instead help them to find forever families. Whispering Willows RescueDue to the growing amount of dog and cat rescues, especially breed specific rescues in our area, we have decided to focus primarily on small animals, such as ferrets, rats, gerbils, hamsters, Chinchillas, etc. We, also, accept some reptiles, such as small lizards. MidSouth Animal Rescue LeagueThe majority of the animals on this website are from the West Memphis Animal Shelter & Humane Society of Eastern Arkansas in West Memphis, Arkansas. When they are put into foster homes in the Memphis area, they are moved to this website. Some of the animals on this website are in foster homes with the good samaritans that rescued them. There are also some special dogs on here that other shelters, like the Oxford Animal Shelter, have asked us to put on our website to make sure that they get a fair chance at being seen. We prefer to adopt in the Mid-South AREA, usually no more than 1-2 hours away in driving distance. Bunny RescueBunny Rescue is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization located in Nashville, Tennessee that rescues injured and abandoned domestic rabbits, while educating the public on rabbit care and behavior. We are members of The House Rabbit Society (www.rabbit.org). Our rescues are spayed and neutered, then taught to use a litter box so they may live indoors. Rabbits are intelligent and social, and can become wonderful companion animals if given the chance to interact with their human families. If cared for indoors, a rabbit can have a life span of 8 - 15 years. We believe they should be afforded the same rights, level of care, and opportunity for longevity as are commonly afforded to dogs and cats.
