Hancock County Animal ShelterThe Hancock County Animal Shelter is a county facility managed by the Hancock County Animal Shelter Foundation, a non-profit 501c3 organization. Founded in 1991, the Foundation worked to raise money for the construction of a new county shelter to replace the outdated facility then being used. Today, the shelter is run in a humane manner. Incoming animals are assessed, vaccinated, and wormed. Hancock County Humane SocietyThe Hancock County Humane Society is a no-kill*, non-profit animal shelter. This shelter has been in existance for many years and has always been staffed entirely by volunteers and funded entirely on donations from the local community. It is our goal to find permanent safe and loving homes for the pets in our care. We would also like to promote community education and awareness. It cannot be stressed enough the importance of early spay/neuter of a pet. We simply cannot keep up with the rate of over-population in cats and dogs on our own and must have the support of the entire community if we are ever to eliminate this problem. Additionally, we would like to stress the importance of a pet wearing I.D.. This can be in the form of a collar with a tag, a microchip implanted by your veterinarian or both. A lost pet is most likely to be returned to its home if it is wearing I.D.. Please note that we are NOT part of the county Animal Care and Control Shelter but are a completely separate shelter. *No-kill meaning healthy pets with good temperaments are kept until adopted no matter how many years it may take. Hancock County PoundI have been rescuing dogs/puppies from my county's pound for over 4 years now and although I work with the county warden, I do this strictly on a volunteer basis. I have no say in the policies of this facility. I have always loved animals and this is my way to make a difference in the lives of these animals. This pound has been around for a very long time and 4 years ago they made additions and shelter improvements. The county is responsible for housing the dogs/puppies for 7 days. They do not except cats. They can be reclaimed at any point during that time frame. After that they are to be euthanized. There is no set hours nor staff on duty. Cleaning and feeding is done but no adoption hours or open to the public. The pound is located around 2 hours north of St. Louis, 2 hours west of Peoria, 2 hours south of the Quad Cities, and 2 hours south east of Iowa City IA. Hands for PawsHands for Paws is a non-profit organization dedicated to ending the suffering of stray dogs (called satos by the locals) roaming Puerto Rico, desperately in need of medical attention, food and water, and a loving touch. We were originally created at Manos por Patas, which means Hands for Paws in Spanish, and operate under both names. Our program involves providing sterilizations to the dogs as well as medical attention and vaccinations. We will broaden the program to provide free or low-cost spay and neuter services for all pets in Puerto Rico. Hands For PawsOur mission is to place homeless, unwanted or abused puppies and dogs into permanent, responsible homes. Most animals come from animal control facilities and are purchased by us on the day they're scheduled to be destroyed. We also acquire animals from private parties who relinquish them voluntarily. Animals are given comprehensive veterinary care including sterilization, heartworm testing, preventive, and treatment as needed, immunizations, and parasite control.
