A non-profit TNR group made up of local volunteers dedicated to reducing the suffering of homeless cats and kittns through TNR. Founded in July 2002, in hopes of reducing the overwhelming number of stray cats who roam our city and surrounding areas. We have chosen trap-neuter-return (TNR) as our means of accomplishing this seemingly impossible task. Studies have shown this program to be much more effective and humane than euthanasia, because the cats can reproduce quicker than they can be taken away. Alley Cat Angels has been honored with the Humane Society-Calhoun Area “Humanitarian Award for the last 2 years.

Our mission is to ultimately ensure that every creature has access to the basic necessities of life-food, water, shelter, and medical attention. This goal is achieved through working with like-minded individuals in the community. By providing information, education, and advice, we encourage and perpetuate animals living quality lives in harmony among us rather than being viewed as a nuisance. Furthermore, we provide supplies and other resources (vet care, transportation) to individuals who care for needy (abused, neglected, starving, injured, sick) animals. We have many sites throughout the state where homeless animals can find shelter and food.

Who Is ARPO?
The Alliance for Responsible Pet Ownership was conceived in 1998 by a group of Indianapolis citizens concerned about the continuing high rate of euthanasia in our city. ARPO seeks to unite animal-related businesses and organizations in central Indiana for the purpose of promoting responsible pet ownership and decreasing the number of companion animals surrendered to shelters. ARPO is funded solely by donations and is staffed entirely by volunteers. We do not have a shelter, so all of our adoptable animals are housed in temporary foster homes until loving permanent homes are found. If you would like more information on becoming a foster parent, please contact us.
