Thousands of unwanted and unplanned animals are born into Contra Costa County each year without the guarantee of a forever home. Each home found for these animals means one less home for a shelter animal facing euthanasia. Thousands of animals are put to sleep each year in Contra Costa County because there simply aren't enough homes. You can help to stop this destruction. PLEASE spay, neuter, adopt and spread the word!

The Converse Animal Shelter, Inc is a non-profit organization that was begun in 1979. All funds are used for the benefit of the animals. 18,000 helpless, abandoned, unwanted, sick and lost animals have come through its gate.
The shelter's goals are to provide the local area with a humane facility in order to care for unwanted, abused and abandoned animals until such animals can be placed in suitable adoptive homes. To impress upon all members of the community the fact that the acquisition of a companion animal represents a ten to fifteen year commitment; animals are not disposable commodities. To educate members of the community in what constitutes responsible pet ownership, emphasizing the benefits of the spaying/ neutering of animals and providing information in pet care, training and maintenance.

Cool Cats is a rescue and adoption organization helping to control the feral and abandoned cat population through humane alternatives. Our policy is to see NO KILL of especially the cats that are NOT known as "companion" animals. Unadoptable feral cats are returned to their colonies altered, current with shots & vaccines, and with their ears tipped. Our kitties may also be viewed at our foster homes and/or our main shelter mid-week & on weekends by appointment. Please note that the SPCA is the alternative for you if you have a domestic cat for which you are seeking a home. Our group concentrates on injured, stray, abandoned and wild cats only. We do not take owner give-ups. If you are trying to find a home for your domestic cat, have you run an ad in the newspaper or the Penny Saver? If you've found a cat, the newspapers run FOUND ads for FREE - call them and please post flyers in your neighborhood because it works!
