Shiawassee Humane SocietyThe Shiawassee Humane Society is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, that started in 1954. We moved to the current location at 2752 W. Bennington Rd. In the late 1970's. We are a low kill facility, by this we mean that we only euthanize terminally ill animals that have no quality of life left, and those who do not pass our temperment evaluations, and who pose a threat to the general public. Our facility houses up to 900 cats and dogs each year. Since we can only house so many animals at one time, we have "waiting" lists to bring your animals in.2752 W. We have an Animal Control Officer that investigates complaints of neglect and/or cruelty. We handle all the animal bites for the county. Our officer will be happy to pick up stray dogs if one wanders into your yard, we do not have the staffing to pick up cats or other animals unless they have been hit by a car or sick.1251 E.
