Miami-Dade Animal ServicesMiami-Dade Animal Services is a standalone department within Miami-Dade County Government. We are primarily charged with the responsibility of enforcing Chapter 5 of the Code of Metropolitan Dade County. Unlike private shelters that have limitations on the number of pets they accept, we accept all animals at the Animal Services shelter. No pets are turned away, and each year, the shelter impounds more than 32,000 dogs and cats. Due to the tremendous pet overpopulation problem in Miami-Dade county, our shelter is constantly overcrowded -- WE NEED ADOPTERS! Most of the rescue groups that you find in Miami, Florida, rescue pets from our shelter, so the pets that they are adopting out have come through us, first. Our goal is to find lifelong homes for as many animals as possible and to provide proper care for them while they’re at our shelter. We also educate the public about pet overpopulation and responsible pet ownership, and we offer low-cost vaccinations and free spay/neuter services for the pets of Miami-Dade county residents.
