SnuggleBug is an independent rescue organization that operates solely on private donations and volunteer efforts, and are recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization. We are dedicated to finding loving homes for animals that would otherwise have very little chance for survival. Our mission is to connect people and pets for a lifetime commitment. SnuggleBug does not take in owner surrenders, and we rescue most of our animals from kill shelters just before their time is up. Since we do not have a public facility, foster "parents" bring these animals into their homes where they are lovingly cared for, rehabilitated, socialized and carefully placed with compatible people who are willing to be guardians, friends, and family forever.

Franklin County’s animal control facility (located at the county landfill between Louisburg and Youngsville) was originally designed as a rabies control facility rather than a shelter. Consequently, it does not have the resources to provide long-term care for dogs and cats. Stray dogs and cats are kept at the facility for a minimum of three days prior to euthanasia, while owner-surrendered animals may be (but are not always) euthanized immediately. Therefore, these animals do not have much time once they are at the facility. Further, the aging facility employs a gas chamber to euthanize animals. While the use of gas chambers is legal in North Carolina, it is not the method of euthanasia recommended by most humane organizations and veterinarians for destruction of tame/friendly dogs and cats

Spanky's Project is dedicated to finding homes for kennel dogs whether the kennel is large scale or only a few dogs. We work with breeders to help make them aware that there are other alternatives for them to choose instead of euthanizing, advertising "for Free" in the classifieds, selling for research, or to be uses as bait for dog fighting.

Arden's Arc is an all breed dog rescue specializing in dogs with special needs. In general, special needs means those dogs who may have physical, mental, or emotional issues. In most cases, these are the dogs no one else wanted. We have rescued and placed dogs with chronic diseases, orthopedic problems, fear aggression issues, as well as normal aging issues just to name a few. Of course we wouldn't turn away a dog simply because she doesn't have one of these special needs. We have rescued and placed many dogs whose only issue is not having a forever home.
