Belleville Area Humane SocietyIn 1959, a caring group of volunteers gathered to share a common and deeply-held concern: a desire to help the thousands of unwanted, abandoned and mistreated animals of this community. Their dedication to the welfare of animals led to the creation of the Belleville Area Humane Society. BAHS depends almost entirely upon the intrest and support of concerned citizens through donations and membership in the organization. A Board of Directors is charged with governance of the organization, including management of policies, finances, physical plant, operations, personnel, fundraising events, media and public relations, public outreach activities and all other matters that relate to its purpose and activities. The main activities of the shelter are carried out by empolyees (with additional assistance provided by volunteers) under the direction of a manager. BAHS is a non-profit organization. It's support is derived primarily from membership fees, donations, bequests, adoption fees and fundraising activities. Some operating funds are recieved through billed services to St. Clair Township and the city of Belleville. MIDWEST DOG RESCUE NETWORKWe are a "network" of rescuers in the Midwest. Many of us have known one another for years from helping with various local rescue groups, shelters, and national breed rescue groups. All of us have had the experience of coming across a dog that needed help that didn’t have a rescue group that could take them into their program. We were finding that regardless of breed or whether a dog is "purebred", there are many of us out there who wanted to help these dogs and need a place to list them. Therefore, we decided to start Midwest Dog Rescue Network to help rescuers help dogs that would otherwise "fall through the cracks". WAGSWonderful and Grateful Strays Sanctuary is a place on earth where pets, that have been abandoned, abused, or neglected, can stay while a loving home is found for them. I specialize in the "one of a kind" breeds because the mixes are usually the first ones abandoned and the last to be chosen. So my heart go out these special kids. W.A.G.S. has placed hundreds of rescued pets, from off the streets, as well as, the precious adoptable pets that have landed in local animal control shelters that were not adopted and are scheduled for being put down to make room for the incoming. Spirits are re-energized and sad memories are replace with miles of daily romps and endless playtime if they choose.
