Humane Society of Raleigh County Inc.The Humane Society of Raleigh County, Inc. is a non-profit organization which has been serving people and pets since 1979. Its mission is to prevent animal abuse and neglect. Located in Beckley, the county seat of Raleigh County, WV, the animal shelter staff provide adoption opportunities, animal control, public education, and 24-hour on-call emergency coverage for all county residents. By agreement with the Raleigh County Commission and the City of Beckley, the Humane Society enforces state and local laws pertaining to animals but is not a government agency. The animal shelter is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday excluding holidays from 11:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. For more information about the animal shelter, call 304-253-8921 or fax 304-255-9134. E-mail address is rcpets@citynet.net and web site is rcpets.org. Adopting a friend The adoption fee is $27.00 for cats, kittens, dogs and puppies. There is a written contract which the adopting owner must sign which requires that any animal which has not already been altered shall be spayed or neutered by a deadline set by the shelter. In cooperation with the Humane Society of Raleigh County, several local veterinarians discount the cost of surgery by as much as 40%, but it is the responsibility of the new owner to schedule and pay for the surgery and mandatory rabies vaccination, which is also discounted.
