Capital Area Animal Welfare Society (CAAWS) is an all-volunteer non-profit humane society devoted to the prevention of animal suffering. CAAWS has been serving the people and animals of Baton Rouge since 1979 by placing cats and dogs in loving homes and educating the public about responsible pet ownership.
CAAWS is not a shelter, but an adoption agency, which places animals in foster homes until they are adopted. In this way we try to prepare the animals for the experience of living in a home environment. We are a no-kill humane society.
We also provide a service to the public by allowing people with unwanted animals to put their pets up for adoption at our facility. Potential adopters of both foster and public animals are thoroughly screened and interviewed before being allowed to adopt.

Louisiana Boxer Rescue has grown over the past 12 years from one woman rescuing boxers from the streets and shelters of New Orleans, to include several active members and foster homes across the state. The philosophy of Louisiana Boxer Rescue is not to provide Boxers to the public. Our main focus is the dog itself and finding the appropriate forever home for that dog. Rescue applications seem almost like human adoption forms, but that is because we want to place the dog into a loving home where he will live out his natural life.

We are the Laird's, Carol and Harold. Our love affair with Greyhounds started about 8 years ago. We read an ad placed by a couple of greyhound groups in our local newspaper and decided to check it out. We met the groups and our First Greyhound at a local Franks Nursery & Craft store. The meeting went well, so well in fact that less than 24 hours later Harold found himself driving to Grand Rapids to pick up the first of many Greyhounds we would adopt. soon after that we began our own adoption, non-profit organization to find homes for even more Greyhounds. We are based in Battle Creek, Michigan and are proud to say we have been responsible for the placement of many Greyhounds into loving homes.

A non-profit TNR group made up of local volunteers dedicated to reducing the suffering of homeless cats and kittns through TNR. Founded in July 2002, in hopes of reducing the overwhelming number of stray cats who roam our city and surrounding areas. We have chosen trap-neuter-return (TNR) as our means of accomplishing this seemingly impossible task. Studies have shown this program to be much more effective and humane than euthanasia, because the cats can reproduce quicker than they can be taken away. Alley Cat Angels has been honored with the Humane Society-Calhoun Area “Humanitarian Award for the last 2 years.
