Fresh Start Sheltie Rescue was started in December, 2001 as a way to rescue and rehabilitate Shelties that need a "Fresh Start" in life. All Shelties in our program have been vaccinated, spayed or neutered, checked (and treated if necessary) for heartworms, checked (and treated if necessary) for parasites, and groomed. They have had their temperament evaluated. Prospective homes will be thoroughly screened before being considered to adopt.

Laura's Adoption Center is located within Family Veterinary Practice. On Friday, July 6, 2001, Laura Simaitis, our technician and head of our adoption program tragically died in an automobile accident. Laura's untimely death has caused a real shock within our staff and we all are grieving our loss. Laura had been at Family Veterinary Practice for over a year and was truly loved by staff, clients and pets alike. Laura was a kind, compassionate and fun loving person who drew people and pets to her because of her charismatic personality.
One of Laura's missions in life was to care for orphaned animals, especially kittens. Her passion was to see that these 'seemingly forgotten' and discarded pets were given a chance to be healthy and to be placed in caring and protective homes. Laura had placed hundreds of orphaned kittens in homes across the mid-south that would certainly have met an untimely death. Her adoption center was appropriately called the Affection Connection. We would like to carry on Laura's vision and thereby continuing her memory through the lives of God's Special Creatures by renaming the adoption program, Laura's Adoption Center.

The FLSS School Horse Retirement Program, established in 2003, has been established as a means to find suitable new homes for horses retiring from the Lord Stirling Stable lesson program. The program will ensure that our retiring horses, which have worked so faithfully for us, continue to be loved and well cared for even with their limitations. The Program will maintain a fund to be used to cover costs of board and care for retiring horses until a suitable home can be found. This program will help to ensure a bright future for our school horses.
