Maxicare Dog Rehoming Centre
Maxicare is an appeal launched by Animals in Need. We take stray and unwanted dogs from 'Death Row' and save them from destruction. The dogs are kept until the right home comes along and no dog is ever destroyed, unless on veterinary advice. The kennels we use offer the best possible care for the dogs while they are with us. Prior to a dog being adopted, a home visit is always made to prospective owners, and an appointment is essential before viewing the dogs. Because we are often unaware of the previous history of the dogs we never re-home them in families with children under the age of five.

The national charity for elderly people, and their much loved, much needed companion animals. A network of 8,000 volunteers “hold hands with owners to provide vital loving care for their pets. The trust aims to keep them together - for example, by walking a dog every day for a housebound owner, fostering pets when owners need hospital care, fetching the cat food, or even cleaning the budgie's cage. And when a pet is bereaved the Trust takes on their full time, life time care.

JERSEY - QUALITY OF LIFE ANIMAL SANCTUARY
The sanctuary takes in and cares for elderly and sick cats, and also rehomes the younger cats. Their cats are not caged, but live as part of the family. Other animals including horses are also cared for, and the shelter has a non-destruction policy. They rely on legacies and public donations to meet their veterinary bills, which can be as high as £2000 a month.

Caring for the older and less easily homed cats, many of whom need to be looked after long term. By taking in long term 'residents' they take some of the pressure off other rescue groups who have difficulty finding homes for the 'unwanted' ones.
