dream for Amina Abaza became a reality in September 2001, when the Society for the Protection of Animal Rights in Egypt received its registration as the first animal welfare organization in Egypt to address the situation of all animals. In 2000, Amina and her husband Raouf rented a plot of land on the Saqqara Road just 20 minutes from downtown Cairo and began to construct a dog shelter. Beginning with 40 dog kennels, the physical space of SPARE has grown to include 60 dog kennels, a cat shelter for 25 cats, a donkey sanctuary, a donkey day clinic, a dedicated clinic funded by WSPA for spay and neuter operations, and plans are underway for a donkey mobile clinic. registered as a charitable organization with the Egyptian Ministry of Social Affairs
