North Bay & District Humane SocietyThe North Bay and District Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (S.P.C.A) was incorporated on August 6, 1954 under the Ontario Business Corporation Act. The Society is a non-profit organization and is exempt from income taxes under section 149(1)(1). The current shelter building on Main Street West was mostly funded through the estate of the founding President Mrs. Marjorie Wright. The shelter building is named "The Marjorie Wright Shelter for Animals" in her memory. The Society is an affiliate, rather than a branch of the Ontario S.P.C.A., and pays an annual membership fee for this affiliation. OSPCA Parry Sound BranchA small animal care centre in a growing community, the Parry Sound branch is an incredibly busy place! Our branch is constantly overflowing with animals. A shelter built for five dogs, at many times holds more than 10. We can house up to 50 cats at one time but at many times provide shelter for up to 70. Cats and dogs arrive daily, looking for shelter, a kind hand and, ultimately, that most cherished dream, a new permanent, safe home.
