SSCBC Rescue is a volunteer effort by dedicated individuals. The dogs in our rescue program appear as Shelties, most of whom were surrendered by owners who have had life changes that have forced them to give up the dogs. Very few of our dogs are from animal shelters.

The Bernese Mountain Dog Club of Canada is actively involved in the rescue of Bernese Mountain Dogs in distress or ones that require re-homing. We have a large network of people across the country that are dedicated to helping any Berner in need. Luckily, over the last five years we have had only a handful of rescues, however it is only a matter of time

The Alberta Ferret Society, a non-profit organization, was formed in May 1997 to promote the health and well being of ferrets. Its goal are to educate ferret owners and those considering the ferret as a pet, to raise public awareness about these often misunderstood pets and to provide shelter, care and necessary rehabilitation for unwanted, abused and abandoned ferrets and finally, to find adoptive homes for them.

The advantages of adopting from Animal Services:
The animals are checked by a veterinarian for obvious health and behavioral problems.
Volunteers work with the animals to keep them happy and socialized.
Not only are you giving a home to a healthy, loving animal, but the adoption fee is a great value that includes many extras.

The Calgary Humane Society is a progressive organization with a rich history of grass roots work on behalf of animals in our community. Founded in 1922, with just a single inspector, several committed volunteers and without a shelter, we have definitely come a long way. Calgary now has one of the lowest euthanasia rates in Canada, a full service veterinary clinic for Shelter animals, cutting edge educational programs, an extensive post-adoption support system, approximately 300 dedicated volunteers, a wildlife referral network and many ongoing partnerships with vets, the City of Calgary and other animal welfare organizations.
