Unfortunately, pregnant and Mother cats are abandoned on streets and at shelters every day. Compounding a Mother cat’s own fear and confusion at losing her home and entering a strange and scary place is her fear for her children.
That’s where MommyCat comes in. We rescue pregnant and Mother cats with kittens from shelters, their health is checked by one of our network veterinarians, we bring them into a warm and safe environment, we love them, feed them premium kitten food, and then when the babies are nine weeks old we put them all into adoption. They are all spayed and neutered, in order to stop the cycle of unwanted cats, and they are all injected with a pet retrieval microchip to insure they will never be homeless again.

We are not your run of the mill shelter. We believe in readying the animal for its new environment and therefore some of the animals are with us for an extended period. This adds up in the cost of care, but our return rate is exceptionally low

We are primarily a large breed rescue however I often have small and medium sized dogs, sometimes cats and kittens, and rarely I will have a reptile, bird, or critter (ferret, guinea pig, etc). I have many people call asking for something that I do not have at this time. For this reason I keep a list of potential adopters who are requesting a certain breed or type of animal. I will gladly add your name to this list if you ask!

Over four years ago, when Dr. Sherry Weaver opened her practice in the Woodstock community, Don's Orphans began. Her vision was two fold, a way to give back medically to animals with special needs, and to continue the generous nature of her late father, Don Sanford.
