The City of Sacramento Animal Care Services does far more than caring for lost, injured and abandoned animals in our community.
We provide a variety of services that protect both citizens and animals and most importantly, we keep lost pets safe and happy so they can be reunited with their owner or adopted into a new family

Friends of Sac City Shelter Animals Inc. is a non-profit organization devoted to finding loving, caring, permanent homes for the wonderful animals at the Sacramento City Shelter. More than 5,000 dogs and 3,400 cats are killed each year at the City Shelter. Because of this unfortunate situation, this group of concerned citizens organized to assist the animals that end up at this facility through no fault of their own.

Sacramento Independent Animal Rescuers is a 501c3 nonprofit organization. Our purpose is to aid stray, abandoned, and neglected animals. In addition to animals rescued and adopted by our organization, SIAR is also dedicated to help other independent animal rescuers find their foster animals the loving homes they deserve. To date, over 1100 dogs and cats have been rescued and placed into wonderful homes in the past few years. In order to provide these services, we work with the community shelters, rescue organizations, and individuals who have animals with special needs and place these animals in permanent homes after they reach a stage of wellness.

The Sacramento Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) was established 1894 and is dedicated to ensuring the humane treatment of all animals in the Sacramento area. We provide a safe and nurturing environment for unwanted, abandoned and mistreated pets until they can be placed into loving homes. Through proactive intervention, public education and community outreach, the Sacramento SPCA seeks to promote respect for all life by breaking the cycle of abuse, neglect and pet overpopulation in our communities.
