Animal Care and Control is part of Palm Beach County Government. Our shelter was started in 1969. We are located at 7100 Belvedere Road, West Palm Beach, Florida (five miles west of I-95).
In 1974, the shelter became a division of the Public Safety Department. Programs and services were expanded to keep pace with the growing human and animal population. In 1980, the division became fully accredited by the Humane Society of the United States. Animal Care and Control was the first agency in the southeast and the second in the entire nation to achieve this distinction.

Since 1999 our small volunteer non-profit organization has been struggling to rescue as many strays from the surrounding counties as we can. We operate out of foster-homes with the love these animals deserve. We believe in spay/neutering, NOT euthanization. All our animals are altered to prevent more homeless animals and have appropriate vaccinations & medical done by our local veterinarians. 100% of all donations go directly to help the animals.

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) has served as every Tampa Bay pet owner's safety net for 65 years. According to an article in the St. Petersburg Times (2000) more than 77,000 dogs and cats are turned over to shelters in Hillsborough and pinellas counties annually. Of those dogs that are admitted to shelters, almost 25 percent are purebred.
The SPCA provides services to between 16,000 and 18,000 homeless and abandoned animals every year. Once it is determined that an animal is physically and emotionally suitable for adoption, the SPCA provides food, shelter, medical care and behavior training until the animal is adopted.
