Central States Horse Rescue was founded in 1995. Back then we were "Wisconsin Horse Rescue". We have grown quickly over the years. We have participated in helping many abused and/or neglected horses in these short years. "Central States Horse Rescue" was originally self funded, but we soon discovered that expansion required funding through donations. Thus we became a not-for-profit organization. We are a PRIVATE rescue center, NOT a 501c3, non-profit. However ALL donations are used entirely for the horses. No one receives a salary for this effort. However, our priorities dictate our main goal is to help needy horses, not to do fundraising. Our goal is to intervene in cases of abuse and neglect, purchase horses destined for slaughter, and to offer them sanctuary. With this in mind we humbly ask for your kind donations, both large and small. We are located on the Wisconsin - Iowa & Minnesota borders, and mostly serve these three states, and other surrounding Midwestern states, in approximately a 250 mile radius.

We were the first and only rescue for German Shepherds in the state at that time. Our mission was to help abused, neglected, and/or abandoned German Shepherds to find a new home for the rest of their life. Eventually, we started taking in birds and farm animals also. To date, WGSR has placed over 1000 loving pets in new homes.

We are a non-profit 501(c) horse rescue and retirement located in Beldenville, WI. We are dedicated to providing nurturing and caring homes for any horse who would otherwise have a hard time finding one. It is our goal to make certain that every horse placed in our care is provided with all the necessary ingredients for a safe and happy life and that it never ends up in the auction ring or on the slaughterhouse floor.
Many people are under the impression that a rescue horse is a “horse with issues" and/or a throwaway that no one wants. While it is true that there are horses that come to the rescue because of neglect, injury and owner fears, there are a number that still have much more to give and many years of love and companionship to offer to new owners. Some of the people who have donated their horses to the rescue are doing so hoping for such an owner for their horse. They are donated because the children have grown and no one rides the horse anymore; the horse was injured and is still a loving companion but they cannot afford to keep a horse they cannot use; they are moving and cannot take the horse with them -- there are many reasons why a horse ends up at a rescue.
As a non-profit organization, we are dependent on the kindness of others and rely on donations. Even the smallest donation can help and all donations are tax deductible. Please take a minute and consider giving something back to those horses that have been our working partners, greatest athletes and constant companions.

We are a small operation who buy horses to save them from slaughter. We pick up horses from auctions and will bid on them if no one or the slaughter people do. We will also take horses from people that need to give their horses up. We will not buy horses because people just want to sell their horses. This is a rescue and I dont have alot of money. All of this comes from myself and my husband Dave, Jody Pursley , Makon Buzzell, Michele Linke and Emily Volp who trains them at an incredible discount and my wonderful volunteers who come out and help out. Any donations and sales of the rescue horses will go back into the rescue. No one gets a paid salary from this rescue!

American Standardbred Adoption Program, Inc. was founded in 1994 by a small group of dedicated individuals and professionals who saw a need for a placement service for non-racing Standardbreds. This placement service honors and serves the people and horses within the harness racing industry around the country, with special emphasis on Standardbreds in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. The American Standardbred Adoption Program also serves as a rescue facility and sanctuary for abandoned, abused, or neglected horses of all breeds, and is listed by the Humane Society of the United States as a humane equine rescue organization. Horses of all other breeds are accepted into placement by ASAP, Inc.

Hundenruhe Haven Senior Dog Sanctuary is primarily a hospice and permanent sanctuary for the animals that find a home here. However, we do occasionally rehabilitate pets and find them new forever homes. We accept dogs from other rescues that are 12+ years old (sometimes a little younger) and they live with us in our home (not in kennels), safe and loved, until they pass away. At this time, we do not accept dogs from private parties.

We do not have any paid staff, no corporate jets, Swiss bank accounts or luxury condos in foreign lands. The animals are rescued and cared for daily, by volunteers. The costs we have are specialty feeds, vet expenses, hay, straw, woodshavings, and farm supplies like water heaters, tanks, garden hoses, electric cords... nothing too fancy. What what we have seen over the last few months, is an influx of calls from people who can no longer afford to feed their animals
