Horsepower SanctuariesSince opening its doors in 1991, the mission of Redwings Horse Sanctuary has been to rescue abused and neglected horses and burros which have often been abused and neglected, or on their way to slaughter. Redwings then brings the animals to its 160-acre facility in Lockwood, California, where the largely volunteer staff nurses them back to health. Many of these equines live the remainder of their lives at Redwings, while some live at the facilities of caring community members.
