Our mission is to maintain the integrity, well-being, and health of hooved animals through education first.
SHARE is a nonprofit humane society established in 2005 in the Champaign area. We have investigators that cover a large portion of Illinois.
At SHARE, our goal is to help equines trapped in situations of abuse and starvation. It is also our wish as well to educate horse owners on how to properly care for their horses.
The humane society offers to help educate owners on the proper daily care and maintenance; vetting and hoof care as well as nutrition and emergencies. The society also rescues severely neglected horses and provides rehabilitation services and placement through adoption.

Founded in 1991 by Joan B. Benson and incorporated in 1999, we continue to reach out and to grow. HPS is a fully incorporated 501(c)3, approved by the Internal Revenue Service as a nonprofit organization. The Horse Protection Society maintains the only equine sanctuary in North Carolina that provides permanent retirement care for abused and neglected equine. The sanctuary is available for people who can no long afford to care for their equine. Rocking Horse Ranch has housed as many as 40 horses. The need is so great that plans will have to be made to find a larger facility and funds raised for the purchase. HPS has trained investigators to perform on-going abuse and neglect investigations with the goal of educating the owner in the proper care of their horses. We only prosecute abuse cases when absolutely necessary. When the owners are not interested in the humane care of their horse, we offer to take the horse and rehabilitate them.
