We operate via network of foster homes, that take in horses, rehabilitate them when needed and house them until we find the right adoptive home. We do our best to place the horse into a foster home that is the best fit for the horse. Our foster homes are our heart-they love the horses like one of their own. Once the horse is ready for adoption, he is placed on our web site as 'available for adoption'. Potentiial adopters must complete an adoption application, provide references and pass a pre-adoption inspection. Once approved, adopters sign and adoption contract that states that they will provide good care for the horse in accordance with our Minimum Standards of Care. The rescue will perform periodic checkups on the adoptive home for at least two years. At the end of the two years, ownership will be transferred to the adopter. However, the adopter must sign an adoption contract and agree to return the horse to BEHS if they cannot care for him-at any time in his life.

We are a small group of volunteers in San Angelo, Texas who help out purebred animals (dogs, cats, rabbits, horses, etc) in the state of Texas. Because of our small size we had to have some limitations so we decided to help purebred because we are familiar with the characteristics (temperments, needs) of purebred animals. All the dogs live in a home environment and are crate trained so that they will more easily make the transition into their permanent homes. The primary breeds we help are large breeds- great danes, afghan hounds, greyhounds, Irish Wolfhounds, mastiffs, etc, but always have plenty of room for the smaller animals in needed such as Persians, Scottish Folds, Siamese, etc. We also have bird, rodent, and rabbitry experience, and occassionally will take in an owner release horse whom can't be cared for anymore. All our animals must pass temperment testing before being deemed adoptible!!!

We are in the process of developing an Equine Assisted Psychotherapy Program. All of the animals who we foster and have available for adoption are "rescued." Most have come from kill shelters. Due to the never ending influx of wonderful animals into pounds & shelters every day, and the massive problem of pet-overpopulation, millions of wonderful animals end up getting killed each year.

As the only no-kill, non-profit 380-acre animal sanctuary of its kind serving Austin, San Antonio and surrounding Texas communities, SARA seeks by example to illustrate the value of companion animals; and thus the irresponsibility of allowing an unending cycle of reproduction, neglect and abuse of these animals. We have not waivered from our original goal of a true no-kill policy - the animals live out their natural lives regardless of age, temperment or health

Here at Little Bits, we are committed to responsible pet ownership and education. We do not advocate the taking of wildlife to keep as pets. Nor do we promote exotic animals as pets. We believe that the future well-being of our rescues is our most important responsibility, and the welfare of our rescues always takes precedence in the adoption process. Any animal stays with us as long as it takes to find the right home.
Little Bits Rescue Ranch is dedicated to helping any exotic animal of any age find loving permanent families. All of our animals are treated for any medical concerns, wormed, spayed/neutered and brought current on any applicable shots before placement.
Little Bits Sheltie and Collie Rescue is dedicated to helping shelties and collies and other herding breeds of all ages find loving and caring permanent families. We are a volunteer organization that helps homeless and abandoned herding dogs. Each dog is treated for any and all medical conditions, spayed or neutered, brought current on all shots, wormed, treated for fleas and ticks, heartworm tested and started on preventative medication, and groomed.
