We are an Animal Control facility that is run by the County Government. We accept owner surrendered pets as well as stray animals. At times we have exotics and livestock. We have our own surgery facility with a contracted veterinarian. We spay and neuter every adopted animal that leaves our facility. We also vaccinate for the major diseases as well as heartworm test dogs and Leukemia/FIV test cats. All dogs have a microchip inserted. Please be aware that if you adopt a pet from us that it will not be ready to go home with you until it has had its surgery. Most animals go home the next day. All animals have to be held "stray" time if they have no owner. Therefore, the animals "stray" time must be up before it can be adopted.

Animal Care and Control is part of Palm Beach County Government. Our shelter was started in 1969. We are located at 7100 Belvedere Road, West Palm Beach, Florida (five miles west of I-95).
In 1974, the shelter became a division of the Public Safety Department. Programs and services were expanded to keep pace with the growing human and animal population. In 1980, the division became fully accredited by the Humane Society of the United States. Animal Care and Control was the first agency in the southeast and the second in the entire nation to achieve this distinction.

Our group is dedicated to take some of the burden off our overly taxed law enforcement and animal control by
offering to oversee the case management of reported horse neglect including, but not limited to, working with
owners of horses suspected of neglect, to ensure they understand horse care needs from feed to health care. It
is not the goal of P.E.A.R.L.™ ® to seize and litigate, but instead to work with law enforcement, animal control,
and humane societies as well as with horse owners in need of assistance.
